The return in the third installment of Iron Man was a success. The change of director is good for the film. Shane Black is the new director in this action film, he is not that good at action. But as one of the most successful screenwriters, he wrote the screenplay for the likes of Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout and even the unsuccessful The Long Kiss Goodnight, he gave the whole film a new take that is more character driven. Mostly he gave Tony Stark a trauma that marked his behavior.Tony Stark is no longer the confident tycoon who enjoys his life, but he has black nightmares after the last action in New York and is marked by it. He's not sleeping and he's protecting his loved ones. Pepper Potts is his girlfriend and he wants to protect her, so he builds dozens of new suits of armor and tries out new features over and over again.3. The Iron Man episode concludes the trilogy with the owner of Stark Industries building his modern electronic armor. In the first episode, he fought his former colleague. In the second episode he fought against a colleague of his father and now in the third his fight has an even bigger opponent. The transition to a new style that is more trauma based and fear for loved ones has benefited the entire film. It's a good bit better than the second installment, which was simply a padding between the first, successful, and third installments. The antagonist, or his subordinates, are a skilled opponent and in some ways even better than Tony Stark in his armor.Very much to the spirit of the whole movie, Tony Stark without his armor, and so you can see that he's a normal person who has just a little more money than I do. He manages to make the world's lightest Iron Man armor on a shoestring budget when he doesn't have the latest functional armor available.
Ben Kingsley as his opponent is very well chosen. Such a great actor doesn't play for money, he plays for fun, and so as an antagonist he is a considerable problem.
For any film, the most important thing is the finale of the whole film. After the action with the people who are dropped from the plane, the final action is placed aboard the oil ship. The action is spectacular but cluttered because Tony Stark has made more robots to help him fight the Mandarin. From time to time, I've wondered if it would ever be worth filming some of the action in slow motion, like Michael Bay does. It's just about enjoying certain parts of the action that one doesn't get to notice in the real action.
I liked the movie the most out of all the Iron Man movies, it doesn't have the action of the Avengers, but it's good action. It's a lot of fun. Not just with Tony Stark's catchphrases, his short-lived sidekick in his teens, but also the occasional amusing quips at the antagonists and the jokes with the malfunctioning and built-in armor in the latest version.
