I've got my next episode. It's very slow again, but very entertaining this time. Today we got two more surprises in the story. Those who read the books may have it staged, but for me these are major points.
The first surprise is a new dragon rider who emerges from a minor character. I won't say who, but that's to be expected, given that the previous episodes have featured stories of serfs living their simple lives.
The second surprise is the return of actor Paddy Considine, who is back again as King Viserys. He may have appeared as part of a nightmare, but he's an excellent cameo after young Rhaenyra, and fits the story of Daemon, who has been stumbling around the old and mysterious castle for the umpteenth episode. The question is whether he'll be able to raise any troops when the castle is mentally destroying him.
Let's not forget the King's Landing. For ordinary people, life after the King's walls is getting harder and harder. The King is half-dead and the Royal Regent (the King's brother) is very ambitious and especially action-oriented and holds his position very well.
The gifts of Rhaenyra have brought a boost to the dull kingdom, and she has successfully seized the opportunity to make the weakened crown even duller in front of its subjects.
With only two more episodes to go, I expect something to finally start happening. We've only had one battle, a couple of dragons, a few deaths, and mostly dialogue fights between the main characters in around the various kings and queens.
Now that we have a new dragon rider, hopefully something really interesting will happen in the last two episodes. But I expect the creators to keep us waiting for really interesting things in the last episode until two years from now, when the next season might air.
It's obvious that different creators are making the Rod of the Dragon series. It's made of different dough. It is only about two houses and their rivalry for the royal throne. There's a bit more to it from the lives of the subjects, but I think the story of the subjects has a purpose in that they are important elements on the chessboard with the fact that they could be important knight riders on dragons when there are a lot of dragons without riders.
