King Kong – the right movie for your big LCD TV

What to put on in summer weather when it's hot as hell? The current releases in theaters aren't that good. It's easy to catch colds and sniffles at the multiplex. It's best to stay home and pick something for your Blu-ray player.

One of the movies you'll kill an entire afternoon with this weekend is Jackson's King Kong. It's been nearly 10 years since, after their success with Lord of the Rings, the wealthy producers struck a deal with the filmmaker, who, at the time, had his pick of deals. They agreed to make the big movie he wanted.

The digital revolution has already happened. On Gollum, he verified that his court actor Andy Serkis could bring a digital character to life. He has cast stars of a lesser glow and added a comedian to the cast.

The cast has been put together and now it's up to the director to do the hard part. To properly direct all the actors to complement each other. Using computers to create not only a computer city, but an island and of course King Kong who is all digital.

In my opinion, the New Zealand director has succeeded. Admittedly, enduring a three-hour movie in the cinema is quite a drag on the body and stamina, but thankfully one does not get bored. Both the beginning, middle and end of the film are very gripping. Jackson manages to bring all the actors and CGI elements together into a good film that captivates for an entire afternoon.

The Blu-ray includes, of course, a Czech dub. Listening to it, the voices suited the characters and their actors. David Novotný, Dana Černá and other dubbers, directed by Martin Kolar, have created a dub that doesn't spoil the feel of the film.

For long summer evenings, King Kong is just right. Three hours passes like water.
