The Most Wanted Man on Blu-ray

So I'm briefly reviewing the Blu-ray of one of Philip Seymour Hoffman's last films. A Most Wanted Man. This film flew through theaters awfully fast and there's not a bit of advertising for the digital media either. So very few people will know about this film.

Synopsis: In Hamburg's Islamic community, an unknown man appears one night on the verge of death. Half Chechen, half Russian, he carries $500 and secret information about a million-dollar account in a private bank. His identity remains a mystery – is Issa a terrorist or a victim of the dirty practices of international crime? When it comes to light where the money in the account came from, his life will once again be in danger and all the secret services will take an intense interest in him

Yesterday we also released a review of this film. Unfortunately, even our reviewer Tomas Hegedüš didn't have much of a handle on the film, and so he ended his review with the paragraph:You certainly can't fault any particular aspect of the film. As a whole, with its emphasis on faithfully depicting the plot, it simply fails to arouse the slightest interest in some viewers as to how the actors will turn out, which is to be expected with films of this type. So don't expect the charisma of Labyrinth of Lies, the action seen in the Bourne saga or the humour of Hidden Identity. A Most Wanted Man is a heavy-handed film requiring a certain amount of attention and tolerance, something not all of us are capable of giving to this genre. He gave it a rating of only 40%.

This means that the film will not attract regular movie fans. On Blu-ray, you only get the film with dubbing (starring Tomas Juřička in the lead voice role) and only Czech subtitles. There are no bonus features, so you won't get a bit of how the film was made, how it was directed by Dutch director Anton Corbijn, or a bit of commentary on the now-deceased actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who bled his acting fame through drugs and alcohol.

You could certainly buy the Blu-ray of A Most Wanted Man. It's actually a European film, and one of the Oscar-winning actor's last films (for Capote). It also doesn't hurt to occasionally remind you that it's a spy drama, which fans of spies and government conspiracies love. Fans of the actor, the spy, and Europe should definitely buy the Blu-ray. Others may or may not pass it up.
