A new animated version of The Proud Princess is coming to cinemas

Czech filmmakers have revived the classic fairy tale and brought it to a modern animated form. They have drawn inspiration from the immortal story of Božena Němcová and Bořivoj Zeman's cult adaptation to create a work that will appeal to both lovers of tradition and new generations of viewers.

The Love of King Miroslav and Princess Krasomila

The animated film The Proud Princess tells the story of King Miroslav, who falls in love with the image of the beautiful but proud Princess Krasomila. To win her heart, he decides to visit the Midnight Kingdom incognito, disguised as a gardener. On his way, he discovers a singing flower that enchants even Krasomila herself. With her help, the princess realizes that she has been manipulated by treacherous advisors, and decides to flee the castle with Miroslav. Thus begins an adventurous journey full of thrilling chases and duels, as the evil advisor Maximus will not give up their love easily.

Directing and visual style inspired by the Czech landscape

Directors Radek Beran and David Lisý have created a fairy tale that pays homage to the Czech classic, while enriching it with modern storytelling techniques and new characters. The animation draws on the beauty of the Czech countryside, which brings beautiful scenery and a colourful natural atmosphere to the story, making the film enjoyable for young and old viewers alike.

New characters in fairy tale world

In addition to the popular characters of Princess Charming and King Miroslav, audiences can look forward to new additions - the kindly dog Bijou and sneaky weasel Stalker, who bring tension and comedic elements to the story. These new characters enrich the traditional fairy tale and add another dimension to it.

Music combining classical with modern elements

The musical accompaniment to the film was composed by Ondřej Brzobohatý and Ondřej Brousek, who skilfully combined melodies inspired by Bedřich Smetana with musical motifs from the original feature version. Their composition brings a rich musical layer that combines classical tones with modern elements and gives the film a unique atmosphere.

Dabbing by top Czech actors

The main characters are voiced by leading Czech actors. Anna Fialová as Princess Krasomila, Marek Lambora in the role of King Miroslav and Aleš Procházka in the role of Counsellor Maximus bring strong emotions and entertaining dialogues to the film that will appeal to audiences of all generations.
