Rick and Morty is really a series for adults. The main character, the inventor Rick, proves once again what American animation can surprise with. He's just an alcoholic, he doesn't go far for a bad word, but he can invent many things despite his bad habits. His partner in traveling through the various dimensions of Rick and Morty's world is his 13-year-old 14-year-old grandson Morty, who came to adventure as "blind to the violins" but is an equal partner who, with his childlike naivety, can figure out many things better than his tech-savvy grandfather.
Along with Rick and Morty, other members of the family, from father Jerry and mother Beth to jerky older sister Summer, also have adventures. All of the adventures involve not just the central couple, but the whole family.
I've only seen the first season so far, and that's totally enough to give me a sense of it. The Simpsons is on its 32nd season, Futurama is over, and the American Dad pairing, along with the Griffins, are still going.
Their newest little brother is going to put them all down. In its first season, it has managed to create a cult following that already has many fans who find Seth MacFarlane too dry and Matt Groening too old. Simply a pair permeating an infinite number of dimensions is just the thing for sci-fi fans. Finally, the filmmakers can have a good go at the what-ifs....
Let's not forget the fresh Czech dub, which is not at all behind its American original. The main voice of Rick is dubbed by Josef Carda, who has managed to do a perfect job since Two and a Half Men and Asterix and make his Rick 95% similar to the American original. Morty is dubbed by Michal Holán, who again knows how to do the American outsider right. After American Dad, where he dubs the teenage Steve Smith, he is once again the man who can live up to his teenage self.
I certainly don't need to mention the other well-chosen dubbing voices. These are experienced dubbers such as Pavel Vondra, Hana Ševčíková and others. Not to forget the younger Preiss, Martin, who plays a black elementary school driver named Vagina.
Today on HBO Go, you can relive Rick and Morty from the first season in dubbed form. The first through fourth seasons are in Czech dub and the premiere – the fifth season only has CZ subtitles.
