It has been many years since the first episodes of Game of Thrones were filmed. Dragonborn continues with a fourth episode, so we can move on and compare the new and old series.
Game of Thrones was really about progressive storytelling, where time passed day by day. Unfortunately, House of Drake deals with single episodes in the lineage of the famous Daenerys.
This time, we're going to focus on the story of the king's daughter and brother. The main schemers are Rhaenyra and her uncle Daemon. In the kingdom's main residence, both of them experience a true story that will cause the royal council to stir.
Rhaenyra is at the right age where various lords are interested in her. Members of ruling houses from all over the continent. And like a proper teenager, she doesn't know what to do with her new „hormones“.
Screenwriters, unfortunately, don't know what to write anymore. Unfortunately, the whole episode is just about Rhaenyra having a much better life than her father, who chose the wrong solution for his kingdom. He married the wife of his aide, who „forced“ his daughter on him to be closest to his king. Alicent is a good friend of the king's daughter, Rhaenyra, so it's clear that this is not going to be a good thing.
We don't get to enjoy any expensive dragon scenes this time around, just dark scenes where politics or sex are discussed. I didn't like this part at all, I was expecting more action, but what the heck, it was a filler part that should be continued in the next episodes.
But it's true that the acting performances elevate this boring piece to a higher level. The star of the entire series is Milly Alcock, who will unfortunately be replaced by Emma D’Arcy in later episodes. This will unfortunately happen to Alicent Hightower as well. Actress Emily Carey will be replaced by Olivia Cooke.
I don't know if it's a good idea to have multiple actresses alternating between different characters. I can understand it for characters who age by decades over the course of the series, but for characters who only age by units of years over the course of the series, it's a complete „perversion“.
Also, let's not forget that the only characters who change actors are the female characters, i.e. their partners, lovers…. played by the same actors.
Unfortunately I have to give tonight's episode only a 40% rating.
PS: Unfortunately it's not even Game of Thrones anymore, we see no blood, no sex, no nipples, no penis…. It's all about people being able to watch and not see anything forbidden…
