Star Trek: Discovery – New Eden (S02E02)

I love all of Star Trek, and I've only missed a few episodes of the series, so I couldn't forget about the next episode, Season 2 of ST Discovery. This time, it's even more interesting to watch because the episode is directed by Riker – Jonathan Frakes himself, who has also directed several Star Trek big screen movies.

In the previous episode, Pike solves his first problem on his new ship and plunges into action again. At the end of the universe, where no human foot has set foot, there is a human colony – 200 years old.

During World War III, several thousand people were relocated to the Earth-like planet in order to preserve the human race. Discovery shows up there looking for more occurrences of the anomaly that showed up in the first episode.

Jonathan Frakes is an experienced director and already knows how to make the right episode after many series (Star Trek, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Librarians, etc.). The experience is evident in the direction of the actors and in the story, which, like the previous episode, is not as action-packed, but rather dialogue-driven and addresses one of the Federation's fundamental problems - the Prime Directive.

We've grown accustomed to the main characters (Michael Burnham, Saru, Pike...) and already know what to expect from the actors, and Frakes' direction has made the whole series feel even better, that it's not just about action, but about the story of people on a lonely ship.

We've already talked about the gimmicks and the overall concept of the series, but I'll remind you that it's money well spent for a series that leaves a pleasant feeling in the 50-year-old Star Trek phenomenon.

Fans of both TOS and TNG are sure to criticize that it's not Star Trek anymore and that the characters behave differently than we know them, but Discovery is simply a series for the new millennium and a stepping stone for new fans and for the next series (about Picard and about Georgiou..)
