Picard is back. After Kirk, who is now celebrating nearly 90 years, the new Picard series is dedicated to the Federation's most famous captain, Admiral.
After a first season dedicated to Data and all manner of robots, we return to a future that is very much either promising or depressing. Depending on your point of view, with a lot of things being decided in the 20th century, what happens next is up in the air.
In the first two episodes of Picard's Season 2, we learn nothing more than that it's once again about the survival of humanity and a future that will turn either dark or positive, depending on the decisions of the famous Picard.
The first episode was just an introduction to the crew and the main characters who survived the first season, the second episode is thrown into the plot and the difficult decisions humanity will play.
I appreciate the various retro references to ST: The Next Generation, ST: Deep Space Nine, so the new episodes are really the right continuation of all the series. It's a good thing that the actors who lived through the glorious Star Trek era are still alive, so the actors from the original 90s series are returning (as they did in the first series). Whoopi Goldberg, who has a cameo role in the first episode, is the first to appear.
The important element, however, is the famous Q, played by John de Lancie, who is the best the series can have. It really comes through in the second episode.
The first two episodes of ST-Picard are the best the online serial world has to offer. I look forward to watching the next episodes to see what Picard, Seven, and the other characters can do to save the world.
