This third installment of the Dark Case series doesn't bring us as much news about the case as we might have liked, but the series retains its quality.
This time the most important things happen not in 1980, but ten years later, as we learn how the lead pair of investigators have advanced in their jobs and how everything (deaths and new evidence) will affect the black detective and his wife, whom he met during the first investigation.
It's clear that the lead writer and creator's care to piece everything together gradually into a complex mosaic of characters, their actions and feelings has been beneficial. I'm sure the kidnapper (and the killer) appeared in the first three episodes, but I don't have a guess yet, because we're following the investigation in two time periods and a story set in the 21st Century, when Hays is already retired and during the making of the documentary he reveals his memory, which has already been scarred by old age.
New director Daniel Sackheim knows enough to build on the style of his predecessor's filmmaking that we once again watch everything that goes on in the minds of the main investigators with fascination.
I'm curious to see what the story is, who the killer is and who else the two detectives will meet during their investigation.
