Westworld – The First Creation (S01E01) – How it all began in 2016.

In 2016, the brother of the more famous Christopher Nolan, Jonathan Nolan, decided to collaborate with Star Trek, Star Wars VII and Heroes creator J.J. Abrams, to make a series based on Michael Crichton.

It's a promising idea, but it's about making sure that the execution is also the best we should expect in a series. On October 02, 2016, the first episode premiered, both in the US and here in the Czech Republic, and there have been many previews, trailers and promises that it will be a good series.

The first episode of the 10-part series plunges us into a futuristic park where the main cast is made up of robots. Nicely programmed to make sure no humans get hurt. The park is thematically set in the Wild West, where the world was a rough place, and battles and shootings were not far away. Death, sex, and rape, just thankfully by robots, is the order of the day.

Western Park thankfully has the ability to reset every night from normal life, both the environment and the robots, so only visitors who spent big money on their experiences remember their experiences.

But as it's from the creator of Jurassic Park, it has a similarly simple story, nothing is as good as it seems. Despite the fact that the robots in the park have their own set standards and reset during the night when they don't remember things from the previous day, complications do arise from time to time.

In the first episode, we're introduced to the main characters of the story. Dolores the robot (Evan Rachel Wood) and her lover (James Marsden), who has returned to town by train. Then the main creator of the whole complex and the robots, Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins). And of course the mysterious Man in Black (Ed Harris). This main trio will obviously be the backbone of the story, around which there are other characters of programmers, writers ... who keep the park running, and robots who serve to entertain visitors.

The first episode has succeeded, I think it's the series of the year, nicely pushing into its shadow the 10th series of Red Dwarf and the Simpsons we already know. It's a credit to the creators, director and writers, as well as the very hilarious music composed by Game of Thrones court composer Ramin Djawadi.
