We continue the story of the seven kingdoms. Leaving Jon, Arya, Sansa and other characters with a cliffhanger, the first episode was dedicated to fleshing out the questions that have plagued fans of the series so much. Whether Jon will survive, who saved Daenerys, and more…
As the first episode of the new sixth season, this episode isn’t all that engaging. We learn most of the unanswered questions. But the creators are saving more questions, and new ones, for later episodes. Again, there are a few dead bodies and short battles.
By having this episode focus on many characters at once, we only learn a few bits and pieces of what’s actually going on in the kingdom. Fans of the show will be disappointed, though, because their favorite characters certainly don’t need only a short ten minutes at most to do anything.
It’s certainly a promising start, and I’m excited to see how the stories of many of the main characters continue. We also learn a few new tidbits that weren’t even mentioned in the previous episodes, so the writers, without a book to guide them, have done well to come up with scripting tricks to make the series even more entertaining.
The first episode of the new season isn’t that perfect, I’ve seen better episodes, but as the start of a new series it’s a very decent introduction for the next 9 episodes where we get to learn more stories of the characters we love. And I’m sure there will be a lot of severed heads, killed soldiers and of course naked male and female bodies again.
By the way, the second episode, according to the preview, will even see the return of characters who didn’t appear in the previous series. And so, in the next episode, we’ll be treated to one of the last Stark characters, Bran, who has grown up a bit.
