As soon as I bought a new computer in last year, I jumped. I can play new games in quality details and on a big 4K monitor. The third new game that really pays to have a quality computer with a good processor and an expensive quality card is the Czech (to be released tomorrow) game Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
The first installment of this game came out seven years ago. It was a very successful game, albeit a bit buggy at the time of release, but very high quality. Over the years several DLCs have been released for it, and so the player could enjoy the game for a very long time. However, it was very hard, death awaited the player at every corner, and it also had its characteristic save. The seeding (i.e. drinking to save) is characteristic of this game. The "ability to produce" a save game just depended on the player's ability and ability to use it. Of course, the game i self-saves, but only at certain points, where you may lose progress by your own mistake in a few hours, when you are just wandering around the world and not completing quests.
The other major problem that made the game difficult to play, unless one had learned it over the time of playing, was the combat system. Death awaits at every turn if you don't learn how to fight properly against opponents who seek the main character's life. Therefore, in the beginning, I recommend avoiding all kinds of conflict and rather practice and practice simply to evolve as a player.
Let's not forget i the life of the main character. Unlike other games where nothing needs to be done, in both Kingdom Come games: Deliverance, it is necessary to follow a lifestyle and eat, sleep and of course, live healthy. An important part of this is also to be on good terms with the other people in the villages, i.e. play fair, don't steal from anyone and don't kill anyone either.
The first game exactly replicated the environment around Sazava, the second one is already around Kutna Hora. Of course, everything is stylized to the 15th century, but whoever walks around the places where the game takes place will find many common elements with the real preview.
And now to the second game, which will be released tomorrow. In those seven years, the developers have had plenty of time to do many things and tweak the game to make it appeal to more people than the first game. They've succeeded. Important elements have remained and less important elements have either been improved or tweaked to make the game simpler.
The combat system has been simplified a bit, and so you're not waiting for death around every corner, but only around the second one. You still have to be careful which way you walk to save yourself from the reaper.
Other new elements are different potion making and smithing, which can help you to make your own weapons, medicine and possibly even sell everything, as you need to have money with which to buy even better equipment, that is if you don't make it yourself.
Those who played the first game know how it ended with Henry (the main character). In the second game, the creators themselves cleverly solved the problem with the fact that at the end of the first episode Henry is leveled up, After a brief introduction we are thrown back into playing with a character who has nothing and must gather money, armor and level up his abilities to make the game easier. Progression is always important to accomplish increasingly difficult tasks.
Now to the graphics. The scenery and characters are even better in the game than in the previous game. It's really nice to look at at times. Compared to other (even bigger) games, the game doesn't use extra frame generation (DLSS) or ray tracing. Still, the game is very nice and some of its scenery can be mistaken even for a real-life model. Not to forget i the regular alternation of day and night, and so the world really changes dynamically. And at night is really dark, so even if you use a flashlight, you can only see a few meters anyway.
The creators have also played with sounds, you can hear every kind of nature, from crickets to wolves. The village is also lively, with each inhabitant having a story, going to work and sleeping at night.
The creators have really managed to make a great game. If you like historical RPGs, you will enjoy this. It's not simplistic, but if you honor the rules of medieval life, you'll really enjoy it.
