Komando at BLU-RAY

Novelties have it easy. It comes out on digital six months after its theatrical release. Older movies have it harder, they need to be written about because maybe most of the young population just doesn't know them.

One of the movies of my youth is Schwarzenegger's Commando. A thirty year old movie that I saw in a summer movie theater when I was five. I have fond memories of it, so it's the movie of my youth.

I won't even tell you about the story. It's just a classic 80s movie. The story is very simple. The tricks are very simple. There's a lot of blood.

What should we expect? An 80s film that will have an adequate quality rewrite. Yes, it's exactly that, no or minimal image enhancement. No sound enhancements.

The sound and picture have undergone minimal editing. Just removal of noise and basic errors. In the original English language 5.1 DTS audio. In Czech dubbing of the first version, which is already VHS era with Jiri Zavrel. I have one major complaint though, even though the Blu-ray promises it's the 5.1 version, only the center and extreme front channels are heard in the vast majority. You can't hear anything else. The rear speakers don't even blare, and you won't wake the neighbours with the bass.

But I love these retro pieces, and I'm happy to put the Blu-ray on for an evening of action-packed sipping. With bonus features, it's also a relatively good buy. There are 2 versions on the disc. The theatrical and the director's cut. Among the bonus features you'll find commentaries and a couple of omitted scenes

For the affordable price of about £400, I'm happy to go back to the action-packed 80s. I'm also glad that the film hasn't been converted to 3D, like Predator. It would have been a shame.
