We are excited to announce that Renault Trucks E-Tech T has become the first electric vehicle to join Euro Truck Simulator 2. This innovative truck is now available to players in the Quick Jobs section of the game! Our ongoing partnership with Renault Trucks has allowed us to bring this cutting-edge, all-electric truck to our amazing community.
In April, we announced on our blog that the E-Tech T would be the first EV in Euro Truck Simulator 2. Following this announcement, Renault Trucks kindly invited us to the unveiling of this vehicle, nicknamed "Good Truck", with innovative LumiLor paintwork, at their headquarters in Lyon. Following this unveiling, Renault Trucks took this vehicle on a roadshow around Europe. It was a great pleasure to share this event with our #BestCommunityEver via a live stream directly from the venue. In this broadcast we also showcased Renault Trucks E-Tech T for the first time in Euro Truck Simulator 2 and you can watch the footage below!
A Closer Look at the Renault Trucks E-Tech T
The Renault Trucks E-Tech T features a conventional Renault T cab with an all-new interior and 4x2 chassis. The powertrain includes three electric motors mounted alongside the gearbox in the middle of the chassis, which together deliver 490 kW of power. The vehicle is equipped with a new fully digital on-board computer that includes two screens. In addition, a blind-spot detector is integrated into the A-pillars. The right-hand drive variant also has a different interior layout. The E-Tech T also uses regenerative braking, which allows the battery to be partially recharged when braking and recovering up to 80 % of the energy back.
Challenges of electrification in Euro Truck Simulator 2
As we've stated before, the transition to electric vehicles in our virtual realm presents unique challenges. While our team has worked tirelessly to bring the E-Tech T to ETS2, our gaming infrastructure is not fully prepared to support electric vehicles. Gas stations, originally designed for vehicles running on traditional fuel, cannot easily become electric charging stations without major modifications.
We are now in the experimental phase, our first steps towards electrification in-game. That's why the E-Tech T, along with several other electric vehicles planned for the future, will be introduced in a special mode and will only be accessible through the Quick Jobs section, with the delivery length for the E-Tech T limited to 300 km. If you run out of power on the road, we have introduced an emergency charging service that can help you for a fee. This cautious approach ensures a smooth experience as we re gradually integrating electric vehicles into our virtual world.
What's in store for players
This update does not reset the in-game economy, so it may take some time before Quick Jobs appear in your game with the new E-Tech T. Please be patient and wait for some time to pass in-game if you don't see a quick job with this new truck right away.
The introduction of the E-Tech T is a major milestone that marks the beginning of our journey towards electrification in-game - a historic moment for our community. We are more than proud that Renault Trucks has given us the confidence to bring the beautiful and technologically advanced E-Tech T to our game as the very first EV. We eagerly await our community's feedback on its quietness, acceleration, handling and smoothness and we hope you ll have fun driving it in Euro Truck Simulator 2.
New community design competition
Don't forget that we've teamed up with Renault Trucks for another community design competition, which you can still apply for! In this new competition, our community is invited to help the Renault Trucks team design a second paint job for the E-Tech T. This design will later be recreated on another fully electric and real E-Tech T and also in Euro Truck Simulator 2. All finalists in this design competition will receive an exclusive package of Renault Trucks and SCS Software merchandise along with exciting giveaways from our valued partner, Thrustmaster!
