It's been 15 years since the first Resident Evil. The last one came in early 2017. The only thing all the films in the horror franchise have in common is the lead actress. The directors have changed X number of times, the other actors have changed, only the discovery from The Fifth Element and Joan of Arc has remained.
Everything stands and falls for the lead actress (Milla Jovovich) and there are always monsters, mutants and of course other human enemies trying to kill her.
Over the course of 14 years, it hasn't worked, and the sixth film brings the franchise to a close. Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed the better half of the films and wrote the screenplay for all of the episodes, with the final installment, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter said goodbye to zombies and Alice.
Alice once again returns to the place where she first awoke, the underground Hive complex in Raccoon City, where she tries to save the antidote to the zombie virus. She's up against old enemies as well as Dr. Isaacs (Iain Glen).
This time, the court director has filmed the last episode of a long four years, leaving Alice in a devastated Washington. For she faces, as in a proper computer game, several bosses, several theoretically unbeatable opponents, until she reaches the end of her journey without losing (apart from a few fingers) her health.
Unknown, but experienced, Paul Haslinger has accompanied everything with proper action game music, with your ears hearing some proper action sequences.
Unfortunately, though, the director doesn't seem to have the patience to film clear action and fights. All the fights, Alice vrs. her opponent, are pretty cut up and at times one is not sure how Alice actually killed her opponent.
It's not just Alice who gets killed, but her friends who go to the center of the complex with her. But it's mostly meat for the slaughter, so only the characters played by the more famous actors (Ali Larter) survive to the end. The other actors in her group are not among the people who make it to the end.
The last film is called Resident Evil: The Last Chapter, it really is the last part. During the intro, we learned all the history of the flick, and it all ended well in the end. It may not be the best film (Resident Evil: Extinction - directed by Russell Mulcahy), but of the last three films, it is the best that the hunt to destroy the zombies and mutant brought us.
