The Martian

So yet another film from a famous director is coming to home video. Ridley Scott and his The Martian. We've already got a review of the film, so I'll write something about the Blu-ray.

I liked the film, of course the book premise stood out, but that made the film all the more entertaining and humorous. The story is very simple, an almost dead astronaut on a dead planet. He's trying to survive, and all sorts of natural phenomena on the inhospitable planet complicate his life until the end of the film, when he's finally rescued and returned to Earth.

This is the second space movie for Matt Damon, this time he has the lead role, and it's important to say that the film is based on him. He may not win the Oscar, that's reserved for Leonardo for last year's film.

The film on digital media doesn't hurt, and fans of good sound equipment and good television will enjoy the film along with Survivor. Matt Damon is not dubbed by his court actor in this film. The alternate dubbers had a good time playing their parts, so it doesn't matter at all. Marek Holý is a good option. Petr Pospischal has done quite well with the fact that dubbing companies have limited budgets, so he doesn't get to pay the salaries of dubbers who "strike for bigger salaries."

The Martian Blu-ray pals around with my Aliens collection and fits in well with Gravity and Intestellar. Whichever main character's isolation from the sci-fi films (Gravity, Intestellar or The Martian) is the best, I liked Gravity the best. Intestellar, on the other hand, has the most ideas. But The Martian is the most about life, so it's the most fun.
