So we have a new season of Time Lord. Peter Capaldi's last one. He's got a new companion, again young and inexperienced in world and time travel.
The first episode of the new season focuses on getting to know the Doctor's new companion. It introduces fans of the show to her work and her distinctive demeanor. So the story focuses only on a short-term unknown danger. Of course, how the Doctor, for the xth time, after losing his last companion Clara, rediscovers his abilities to throw himself into any danger in which he saves his human friends.
New companion Bill has room to explore a world full of time travel and travel to different planets. Bill also has room to quickly get acquainted with the Doctor's greatest foe, the Daleks, who only have a cameo role in the first episode.
I don't really like the new companion episodes, hopefully she gets more quality space than just solving the mystery of the mysterious "space" puddle.
The Doctor is no longer the lead rather a supporting role and can't do anything on his own anymore, nor can he save the world or himself.
I didn't like the episode this time, I just expected a bit more with the new companion after the death of both Clara and River. Capaldi is ending this season, so I'm hoping that his follow-up with the 14th reincarnation can bring the episode level back up to where it belongs.
