Westworld – Contrapasso (S01E05) – 85 %

Wouldn't half? Well disappointing, yes we are past the halfway point. Since the previous episode, where we learned some important things but nothing much happened in the story, the creators have prepared an episode where we again learn no new things, but the story will once again jog towards the finish.

Like every half of the series, this episode once again brought us fun, a few shootouts, but of course a few new surprises.

We follow the main character, the robot Dolores, as she and her human sidekick arrive in the dark city of Sin, only to find her hidden memories pretty much hidden under a bunch of updates, moving her life forward again.

As you probably already know, Dolores is unique, and so slowly, bit by bit, she makes her way from good farmer's daughter to the action-packed woman of the Western. Her important function in the story is becoming more and more prominent. She pursues a goal she doesn't yet know about with the same doggedness as the mysterious man in black. Dolores and the mysterious park customer are slowly pursuing the same end. They want to solve a mystery that took place more than 30 years ago.

Let's not forget the newly discovered conspiracy, in the park's management, which is sure to have some sort of denouement in future episodes. I should also mention the episode of the butcher "repairmen" who are constantly repairing destroyed robots every night, either to return them to the same place in the story, or to find a new role for the appropriate robot in the newly constructed story.

The fifth episode is still excellent, it's hard to find fault with it, the story of Dolores and the other characters has moved on in time and place, the question the creators have yet to come up with, I'm very much looking forward to it because there are still too many secrets and the cards the creators are revealing are awfully few. Each episode reveals only one or two pieces that will move into the perfect plot in the last episode. I suspect the creators will definitely save some answers for the unanswered questions until the new season, because they're hardly going to uncover all the trump cards in just the first season. I'm looking forward to episode 11, though I'll definitely have to wait another 10 months until next year for it.

And a question for fans of the show, does the little boy have a bigger role in the story? He's appeared twice so far, but he's supported the story quite well. Is he a robot or just a human?
