Westworld – Generation Loss (S04E04)

So we're halfway through and, most importantly, the creators have a surprise for us exactly halfway through the current season. I won't say what kind, but the expectation that, as season three is all about story lines that are all in the present, we're in for quite a shock.

We follow Caleb and Maeve again in a new park, where we learn through the intrigues of the evil Charlotte what kind of world awaits us if we give in to the robots. A little Matrix and a little Skynet. The wise ones already know...

Christine's story is very short, reuniting with her "beloved" cowboy. In an alternate version, of course, and now the question is whether her cowboy Teddy will be able to break away from his regular job, which is writing scripts for the robot world.

The re-animated Bernard and his sidekick Stubbs embark on an adventure with no exiles and renegades forming a resistance against unknown adversaries.

There are quite a few surprises ahead as we gradually learn who's who and what present we're actually living in. We also learn how Caleb's daughter lives and how Maeve ends up. Of course, there is also the mysterious "Man in Black", who unfortunately becomes a mere shadow of the original William as well. As you probably know from previous episodes, the original is frozen and everything "evil" is done by "robot" copies at the behest of a new evil character, Charlotte, who has ruled over Delos (Westworld) with a firm hand since Dolores' death.

We're in for a few surprises from the previous episode, so I rate this episode quite a bit better than the last. It absolutely deserves my 90%.
